External Partners

Medsin collaborates with numerous external partner organisations – both directly health related and more broadly development, student and advocacy focussed groups. We firmly believe that it is through working together that the greatest difference can be made, and we are always looking for other organisations to join forces with. The following is a list of just a few of the partners we are currently working with.


Academy Health Inequalities Forum

AHIF coordinates the work of the Royal Colleges and Faculties with regards to health inequalities, working to increase awareness of the links in poverty, inequalities and ill-health, and to promote the implementation within the medical, health-care and public health professions policies which reduce inequalities in health. Medsin has a position on this committee.



Alma Mata Global Health Network

Alma Mata is a network for all (mainly young) health professionals who are interested in global health issues. They are particularly expert in global health careers and attract many Medsin alumni.




BMA Medical Students Committee

The British Medical Association is the representative organisation for medical professionals in the UK. They have an active Medical Students' Committee, which Medsin has a seat on. Medsin has several common areas of advocacy with the BMA MSC, including fair medical trade, access to essential medicines and sustainability in the NHS. The BMA MSC Chair also has attends Medsin General Assemblies and forms part of the Medsin delagation to the IFMSA. 



Global Poverty Project

1.4 billion people on our planet live in extreme poverty. The Global Poverty Project's mission is to increase the number and effectiveness of people taking action to see an end to extreme poverty. They achieve this through research, education and advocacy.





The International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA) is an independent, non-political federation representing over 100 different national associations of medical students, of which Medsin is the UK National Member Organisation. Keep Our NHS Public

Keep Our NHS Public are a campaign group calling for the complete withdrawal of the UK Health and Social Care Bill. Medsin have also been lobbying against this bill and have been collaborating with KONP.





Maternal & Childhealth Advocacy International is a charity dedicated to saving the lives of seriously ill pregnant women, children and babies in countries where there is extreme poverty. Medsin trustee Rhona Macdonald is also a trustee of MCAI and we collaborate on maternal and child health advocacy.






Medact is a global health charity tackling issues at the centre of international policy debates. Led by its health professional membership it undertakes education, research and advocacy on the health implications of conflict, development and environmental change.







Medecins du Monde

Médecins du Monde network is an international aid organisation that provides medical care and gives a voice to vulnerable people all over the world. The UK branch is Doctors of the World UK, which amongst other projects runs Project London, a free clinic for those unable to access mainstream healthcare. Medsin collaborates with DOW UK particularly on issues surrounding health rights of asylum seekers and refugees.







Merlin is a UK based international relief charity which sends medical experts to the frontline of global emergencies.







Restless Development

Restless Development is a youth-led internatioal developement agency working in over 50 different countries.





The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene promotes and advances the study, control and prevention of disease in humans and other animals in the tropics and plays a leading role in increasing awareness throughout the world of tropical medicine and international health issues. Medsin collaborates with RSTMH on events and conferences and has a seat on the RSTMH Meetings Committee.




Stop Climate Chaos

SCC is the UK’s largest group of people dedicated to action on climate change and limiting its impact on the world’s poorest communities. Their combined supporter base of more than 11 million people spans over 100 organisations, from environment and development charities to unions, faith, community and women's groups. Medsin is a supporter of SCC.




Tropical Health Education Trust is an international development agency working to improve the health of people in africa and asia. The focus on strengthening healthcare services by harnessing skills and expertise of UK health professionals in bilateral partnerships with healthworkers in the developing world.




The UK Youth Climate Coalition aims to inspire, empower and unite ordinary young people around a vision of a cleaner and fairer future. They are part of the International Youth Climate Movement, which works in over 30 countries, and are run entirely by young volunteers based across the country. Medsin collaborate with UKYCC particularly through Healthy Planet. 




WHO External Partners

The UK Department of Health sends delegations to all meetings of the WHO Executive Board and World Health Assembly. Medsin is represented at the DoH's WHO External Partners meetings where the views of civil society taken into consideration in forming UK policy on WHO functioning and reform before each EB/WHA session.






HIFA2015 (Healthcare Information For All by 2015) is a global campaign with more than 12,000 health workers, librarians, publishers, researchers and policymakers worldwide, committed to accelerate progress towards the HIFA Vision: a world where every person and every health professionals has access to the healthcare information they need to protect their own health and the health of others.
