So what actually are motions?

Motions are essential to the democratic running of our Medsin network. It’s through motions that Medsin members decide upon how the organisation works (through bylaws and guidance statements), what our stances our on current issues (through policy statements), and who the leadership is (through elections). The most up to do date governing documents can be found here. If all this governance stuff is right up your street, find out more here.

And what’s a general assembly all about?

The Spring General Assembly (SGA) is the second of our two general assemblies each year. They are the democratic hub of the network – we use the weekend to discuss and vote upon submissions from members on what they see as the direction of the network for the coming year. For example, policy statements on key aspects of global health, bylaw ammendments to ensure the smooth running of the network, and candidature submissions from members keen to be on the national committee. Along with all this discussion and voting, there’s plenty else going on throughout the weekend. There will be workshops on this weekend’s theme, Food and Health, there will be awesome training sessions, and of course an unmissable social.

And what’s a coordinated theme?

Coordinated themes aim to bring together the Medsin network to focus efforts on a single issue in global health to utilise our network’s coordinated efforts on once important area. For guidance on this please contact pad@medsin.org and secretary@medsin.org.
